Bobby Jones – International Gospel Industry Retreat

Bobby Jones International Gospel Industry Retreat is the brainchild of Gospel recording artist Vicki Winans and Dr. Bobby Jones, the first International Gospel Industry Retreat was held in 1997.

 

Recognizing that Gospel Music was growing, Ms. Winans and Dr. Jones wanted to assist new artist by educating them on the business aspects of the gospel music industry. The Retreat provides new artist with the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the industry from composing music to contract negotiations. Up and coming artist have the opportunity to meet, network and learn from some of the most recognized Gospel Artist in the industry.

 

Originally the Bi-annual event was divided into two categories one for Gospel Artists and one for Recording Industry Executives. Dr. Jones had the foresight to combine the two events into one retreat providing a greater opportunity for education and enrichment.

 

In addition to educating new and experienced artist, the Retreat is designed to provide an opportunity for new artist to perform before their peers and receive feedback from other artist. Additionally, the new artist showcase is televised on the Word Network which is aired in more than 130 countries.

 

Fourteen of the Dr. Bobby Jones International Gospel Industry Retreats were held in Las Vegas In 2004. Dr. Jones decided to host his December Retreat in Miami. Having visited Miami to attend the 100 Black Men of America Conference, he felt that Miami would be a perfect location for the retreat, especially in December.

 

While in Miami, Dr. Jones received an invitation from Greater Fort Lauderdale to consider bringing the Retreat to Fort Lauderdale. After a site visit with officials in Broward County, Dr. Jones has held the past two Retreats in Fort Lauderdale.
