Actress-singer Frenchie Davis, a former American Idol contestant, knows the stage. Before Frenchie Davis to joins the Tony Award-winning musical, “Rent” she performed in several plays, including the highly acclaimed “Dreamgirls.” In August, Davis will add another play to her resume. Frenchie Davis star as Mahalia Jackson in “Mahalia – A Gospel Musical.”

The play is part gospel musical, biography, and revival meeting. It creates a spirited look at the music and Jackson with performances of songs such as His Eye is on the Sparrow, How I Got Over, Deep River and Move On Up a Little Higher.

The play runs from August 2-19 in Hartford, Connecticut as part of the Hartford Stage’s 2007 SummerStage season.
