BET SHOW “SUNDAY BEST” WILL PREMIER ON OCTOBER 2ND @ 8PM ET/PT:
Gospel legend Kirk Franklin, is set to host BET’s SUNDAY BEST, premiering October 2 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, SUNDAY BEST is a nationwide talent search visiting storefront churches, parishes nd mega-churches across the country to find the best undiscovered singers in America. The top five finalists will be coached by artists from the gospel and secular worlds as they strive to win the Sunday Best title. The winner will receive a recording contract, a Toyota Camry, as well as cash and prizes for their home church.
From one of the executive producers of the hit series “American Idol,” Sunday Best will scour the country’s storefront churches, parishes and mega-churches to find the best undiscovered singers in America.
Thousands of hopefuls from across the country, who answered the call to audition for the title of Sunday Best, will be narrowed to twenty finalists in the first five episodes.
In the second half of the season, the contestants will perform LIVE and viewers will have the chance to vote for their favorite contestant via phone and text messaging at the end of each show. America’s next best gospel singer will be crowned Sunday Best on Tuesday, December 4th. The judges for the show will be Mary Mary and BeBe Winans. They will have the task of making one of these contestant’s dreams come true.
“Sunday Best is our opportunity to celebrate our own,” said Kirk Franklin. “The phrase that the best talent is from the church can no longer be an opinion. It must now be a reality.”
Kirk Franklin is the biggest-selling contemporary gospel artist in Soundscan history and is credited with revolutionizing urban inspirational music and bridging the gap between the faith community and urban mainstream culture.
The musical trendsetter has garnered five GRAMMY® Awards, 11 Doves, 34 Stellars, 4 NAACP Image Awards, two BET Awards and a 2006 American Music Award to date.

Hello, I pray this letter finds you in the best of health and in good spirits. My name is Roslyn Smith and I am just a small town girl with a big dream for my community. I would like the help of Kirk and the Family to make my dream a reality. In August 1989, I initiated the first Vacation Bible School program at my church and in 2009 we will celebrate our twentieth year. I would love to have a big celebration to commemorate our years of service to the community, featuring you and Norristown’s Best (like Sunday’s Best), sports figures and lots of fun activities for the children. The motive of my dream is to raise money to build a new church that will be handicap accessible. In 1996 I was diagnose with MS, my mother was the first to be diagnose, then my sister in 2003, and now my brother in January 2008. There are other members with MS and many seniors with other conditions that find it hard to attend service because of the stairs. I have served as Sunday School Superintendent for twenty years and due to the difficulty I have walking I plan to step down from my position in 2009. This celebration will also be a farewell to me. With your help, I would like to wake up on Sunday morning knowing I can ride my scooter right in to the new sanctuary and give God thanks for angels like you. Sincerely yours,
