KEITH WONDERBOY JOHNSON LATEST PROJECT “JUST BEING ME”:
gospel | Jan 14, 2008 | Comments 0
Forget what you’ve heard. The southern gospel tradition is alive and well and lives on in its premier torchbearer, Keith Wonderboy Johnson. From a native New Yorker come some of the newest sounds on the gospel quartet scene with Keith Wonderboy Johnson’s second title on Verity Records dropping spring 2006.
The sounds and styles are diverse throughout “Just Being Me” — from the mid-tempo hand-clapper “He Made A Way,” the mellow and stirring “God’s Got A Blessing For You,” the uplifting “He’s Been Good” with an infectious riff you won’t soon forget, and the energetic album closer “Thank You,” Keith Wonderboy Johnson does not fail to inspire. A crucial thread remains consistent: lifting Him up and bringing praise to His name.
New Season, Keith Wonderboy Johnson’s outstanding 2004 Verity label debut, garnered a myriad of accolades including a 2005 Stellar Award nomination for Traditional CD of the Year. Considered one of the best and brightest talents in a field typically dominated by an older generation, Johnson is often cited as the heir to the recorded southern gospel legacy pioneered by such acts as labelmates The Canton Spirituals featuring Harvey Watkins, Jr. and John P. Kee. The southern quartet sound is as vibrant and relevant as ever!
