BISHOP THOMAS WEEKS III SPEAKS EXCLUSIVELY TO BET NEWS ABOUT HIS FAILED MARRIAGE TO THE PROPHETESS JUANITA BYNUM
gospel | Jan 18, 2008 | Comments 16
For the past few months, the prophetess Juanita Bynum has controlled the airwaves and media outlets in a wave of publicity from the Tom Joyner Show, Good Morning America and back-to-back issues of Essence Magazine about the alleged abuse she suffered at the hands of her husband, Bishop Thomas Weeks III. Now, Bishop Thomas Weeks III tells his side of the story in an exclusive interview with BET News. THE BISHOP SPEAKS premieres Sunday, January 20 at 11:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.
Bishop Thomas Weeks III emotionally refutes Juanita Bynum’s allegations of domestic violence and gives viewers an inside glimpse of a marriage already in turmoil before the night he allegedly beat her in an Atlanta hotel parking lot. Painting a dark picture of Juanita Bynum viewers wouldn’t recognize from her famous “No More Sheets” sermon, the Bishop candidly defends his innocence and argues that he was the one who was abused by Juanita Bynum. He contends that this entire ordeal is a conspiracy to further her career to become the “next Oprah Winfrey.” Also, in a stirring and poignant moment in the special, Bishop Thomas Weeks III delivers a message to Juanita Bynum about healing and picking up the pieces of their relationship and his hope that she finds God again.
From the Special:
When asked about allegations of domestic abuse, Bishop Weeks said, “I’m telling you that whoever made this happen set me up to destroy me… Juanita does not ever want to be unmarried and see me with somebody else…She would be absolutely tormented to see another woman ever be married to me. Twenty seven years of chalked up charges would put me in jail then she wouldn’t have to worry about it.”
Another example Bishop Weeks shared regarding the domestic abuse he endured was, “She grabbed the tie and said, ‘You’re gonna treat me like how I want you to treat me. And I’m going to be your wife.’ And tears started coming down my face…And then when I didn’t respond to her she jumped back on my lap and grabbed my tie and said, ‘Do I need to choke you again?’”

He still sounds like he is bashing her the whole show long. Not that she is perfect, but I don’t find him believable at all. He tries to make her look like the fool. He says he waited all this time to give his story because he is protecting her. Maybe it just took him all this long to think up the story he wanted to give, then practicing speaking it is what took so long. No matter how long it took to think up the big story it still doesn’t sound true. He said he never hit her. I suppose he never hit the other church employee either? He doesn’t sound like he is protecting her, sounds like he trying to make her look and sound like a fool.
Again, not that she is perfect. I am sure she probably did some unwise things too, but when you are married to an abuser your mind tends to go off in that atmosphere. Prayer will fix it. Getting into the world of fame can bring out the worst in people. But I can see God is working with the repentant to completely restore. That is apparent.
I would like to request to see this “BISHOP THOMAS WEEKS III SPEAKS EXCLUSIVELY TO BET NEWS ABOUT HIS FAILED MARRIAGE TO THE PROPHETESS JUANITA BYNUM” I missed it on BET Channel 60. Please let me know where I can see it again…
It was a good interview. Every story has more than one side. His side shows merit.
It must be known that many man are being battered by their wifes and it’s always assume that the woman is the victim. Man like Jason Kidd of the Nets, Bishop Weeks and myself have stayed silent long enough. Six monts into my marriage, during an argument, my wife pulled a knife at me, stabbed me and bit me. Cops were called and wanted to arrest her. I said no. Days and now years later, her main thing is why were the police called and never repenting of her act which to a less extent ocurred three times later. Please, there is always two side to the story. Keep an open mind and STOP assuming it’s the man’s fault. Man should unite to educate the public of this occurrence.
I really wish they would just leave it alone….some stuff never goes away be cause we won’t walk away from it…just like the new toliets that flush by themselves stuff won’t go down until you walk away from the toliet
I saw the show it was a very poor interview .He was not asked what was the cause of his first marriage break-up nor was he asked about him beating up his female employee. He made two statements any good reporter would have asked questions about #1 She needed a king? Jesus is king of kings He stated III generational bishop A bishop at least had a church not his daddy’s while his father is still in it.# 2 He stated she was all about money if that was the case why did she marry him he did’nt have any then or now. He will probably ask for spousal support. # 3 after he helped her with her conference who had ever heard of him before he married Dr. Bynum noone, or very few people. The bottom line is he could not deal with being Mr. Bynum. He also stated his arms are open for her if she wanted to come back won’t happen you said you loved her and then told the world she is unstable .Then you said you would hope she find God , the problem is it was you who said the devil made you do it so it sounds like you are the one who needs to find God , a double minded man is unstable in all of his ways. repent repent repent get right with God
I really believe that people have started to worship people and we have to remember we are human. Humans make mistakes. don’t get me wrong we should not try over and over again to repeat the mistakes but God wants the world to see that no MAN is above him and that we have to get back to the realization that he is god and not man. Some of us go to church out of obligation and not because you really want to.
Money and the flesh is of the world. People kill for money. I believe it is the root of all evil. Some People can not handle fame and fortune. GOD is not in the midst of confusion. It takes two to tangle and I do believe both were wrong. If both are spiritual minded they should have seeked marriage counseling from spiritual people. Both should be meed and humble, yet they are trying to destroy each other. This is not the way Jesus Christ would want us to be. But if you are in the world you will act like the world. May GOD bless them.

wait up and smell the coffee, two failed marriages due to abuse —> I don’t think it was the Bishop.
Iam glad the bishop spoke out so i can hear some more of the story. Some how i do not sense that he is lying at all. What he has said it makes sense. Now that i have heard from both sides. I feel juanita should go home, and they should continue with there marriage. Both parties need to forgive, and put all the cards on the table. start all over again. they need to spend more one on one time with each other and less in the public.
This is sherry what is that picture next to my comment? I did not put that there.
When will Bishop Weeks interview be re-aired?
I saw the interview for the first time BET this morning. I was elated to here his side of the story. I do not think he waited to tell his story because he needed to make something up. I know he has a case pending and can’t say a lot of things at this time. I hope that a jury will see the truth.
I do not dislike Juanita Bynum, however for some years now something has not set right with me with her. I was unable to take her side on this one and I am a woman speaks like her with confidence and I’m not taking more than one beating like that. She does not appear to be a woman who would take too many licks and not tell someone. Bishop Weeks reminds me of my husband in that he would try to do whatever he could to satisfy and keep his marriage. If that is the case it would take a lot for him to even do what he is accused of. I could be wrong but my spirit says no.
I’m keeping them both in prayer.
My simple comment is; the bible said we should insist on settling our grievances before christians and not out there where the world with its pride, lust of the flesh and lust of the eyes are celebrating, so why put it public like this as if we are not secure on our own as christians.
Why expose the cross in such a way and make the world think if christians can’t do it why should we bother try it? Am a recently married man who is disturbed by these reports? Where is the talk about a warfare, sincerity of christians and having pure minds? Anointed people of God are the most tempted by Satan but we must endure and put on the cross. My own mother who is not saved, wanted out recently cause my father continues to drink heavily, but when I spoke to her about setting the christian standard and breaking the curse of divorce, she stayed on and strong, now they are happy again. Lets all learn that God will judge as by what we do, how many people are affected? How many more people will go to hell because of this thing? Our preaching and good lives bring many souls to heaven, but also our misdeeds and evil words for each other nail more to the gates of hell? Which camp is winning, lets think and pray. For how long did the devil plan this wreckage? How can we live if the strong are failing? My main motto standeth for sure;
“its God after that then a linear line of all saints together no preferrences”. We thank God for both the participants, but this is not good. Hope and pray that this seed dies with them now and not passed on to the masses who listen to them.
Grieved but going stronger,
Sebastian Saidi
