BET’S “CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL” REMAINS TELEVISION’S #1 RELIGIOUS/GOSPEL TELECAST FOR THE EIGHTH YEAR IN A ROW
BET’s CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL remains television’s #1 religious/gospel telecast, with this year’s show on Sunday, January 27 posting a 1.9 coverage rating. Nearly 1.7 million households and 2.4 million viewers tuned in to enjoy performances by the brightest stars in gospel and R&B.
This year’s CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL ranks as the #1 COG telecast in BET history among adults 18-49, teens and males. The special has now been the #1 religious/gospel show on television for eight consecutive years.
CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL also enjoyed its #1 lead-in ever with the airing of the film FABRIC OF A MAN, which now ranks as BET’s #1 movie this season. It posted a 1.1 coverage rating, with 933,000 households and 1.4 million viewers tuning in. FABRIC OF A MAN enjoyed a 27% increase versus BET’s season to date Sunday movie average (5:00-8:00 p.m.).
Hosted by veteran comedian/actor and popular syndicated radio personality Steve Harvey, CELEBRATION OF GOSPEL was taped at the historic Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday, December 15. Aptly themed “Spirit in Song,” the inspirational event featured world-renowned musical director Ray Chew leading a 24-piece orchestra, as well as performances by Patti LaBelle, John Legend, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Mighty Clouds of Joy, J Moss, Israel and The New Breed featuring T-Bone, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Dr. Bobby Jones, and the top five SUNDAY BEST finalists.
