Bishop Thomas Weeks III pleaded guilty Tuesday to aggravated assault in last summer’s attack on his estranged wife, national evangelist, Juanita Bynum.
Bishop Thomas Weeks immediately was sentenced to three years probation, 200 hours of non-church related community service and ordered to attend anger management counseling.
Judge T. Jackson Bedford of the Fulton Superior Court accepted the plea from Bishop Weeks who admitted that he grabbed Juanita Bynum, threw her down and kicked her in the parking lot of the Renaissance Concourse Hotel, near Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on August 21, 2007.
Judge Bedford scolded both ministers for their recent behavior as their marital troubles played out before the public
Once Bishop Thomas Weeks completes these conditions, the conviction will be expunged from his record. Bishop Thomas Weeks apologized to Juanita Bynum and both held a brief conference outside of the court.
“My emotions got the best of me,” Bishop Thomas Weeks said of the August 21, 2007 incident. “I take responsibility.”
Juanita Bynum intervened on his behalf during the procedure, appealing to the court to be lenient on him. District attorney Paul Howard said he was pleased the case could be resolved with out going to trail.
“He took responsibility,” Howard said. “We thought that was important.”
Bishop Thomas Weeks said he learned a lesson from this ordeal. He urged men facing similar conflicts with their spouses to “walk away.”
