Gospel Music Bites would like to send our condolences to the Winans Family and let them know, we will be praying for them. We don’t know why God does what he does but we know its all apart of his plan. The Lord wouldn’t put more on us than we can bare.

On Thursday of this past week, the Reuter news organization reported the death of David “Pop” Winans in Nashville, TN. According to Reuters, Pop Winans was 74 years old and died of a heart attack on Wednesday after battling both a stoke and heart attack last year.
Pop Winans is the patriarch of The Winans family that has produced several gospel groups that America has grown to love. Leading the list of famous groups are the Winans” joined by Bebe and Cece, Angie and Debbie Winans and relatively new gospel singing group made up of his grandsons Winans Phase 2.
In addition to the singing of his children and grandchildren, Pop Winans also had a singing career with his wife and performed as “Mom and Pop Winans.
“The parents recorded a Grammy-nominated debut, “Mom & Pop Winans,” in 1989 followed by “The Rest of My Life,” which featured a rocking rendition of “Go Tell It On The Mountain.”
Another solo album, “Uncensored,” was nominated for a Grammy and was described by Billboard magazine as “some of the most compelling music this century has spawned.” according to Reuters.
A statement from the family said “memorial services are planned for next week at Perfecting Church in Detroit where Pastor Marvin Winans is senior pastor.” The wake for Pop Winans will take place on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 7:00 PM. The Home Going Service will take place the following morning Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at 10 AM.
