THE LATEST ON ‘SUNDAY BEST’: Ladies rule again on BET’s gospel talent search show.

It will be another 2 weeks before we find out who will be crowned this year’s Sunday Best, but the winner is guaranteed to be a woman.
The final three contestants on BET’s gospel singing competition have been chosen and they are all women: Maryland’s Y’Anna Crawley, New York’s Latice Crawford, and Michigan’s Jessica Reedy.
Zebulon Ellis was eliminated last night. A wild card pick from the previous week, the 27-year-old suit-maker from Georgia was the last man standing.
Dressed in crisp white ensembles, with their recent make-overs still looking fresh, the top four sang “Call Him Up” by Dr. Bobby Jones as he looked on from the audience.
After singing his solo selection, the Thomas Dorsey classic “Precious Lord” Zebulon Ellis told the host, Kirk Franklin that if it was his last night on the show he just wanted people to see Jesus.
The judges struggled to find words to critique any of the talent, but Tina Campbell said Zebulon Ellis’ performance lacked the “WOW” factor.
BeBe Winans said he sees “a gospel Whitney Houston” when he looks at the slender songstress, Latice Crawford. But, Tina Campbell noticed that Latice Crawford seemed disconnected at times as she sang Cleveland’s “Soon I Will Be Done.”
On the other hand, single moms Reedy and Crawley only received praise for their performances.
Erica Campbell was impressed with Jessica Reedy’s vocal control and range of low-registered tones. The 20-year-old singer hit notes that could compare to the depth of Barry White’s baritone voice. Erica said it was as if she was watching a concert of someone who already had a record contract as the 20-year-old rendered a jazzy version of “God Has Smiled on Me.”
“You gave the song just what it needed,” Tina said about Latice Crawley’s heartfelt delivery of Cleveland’s “I Don’t Feel Now Ways Tired.”
A de-dreaded Fred Hammond, sporting a low hair cut opened the show with a medley of “No Weapon” and “This is the Day.”
Country music great Wynona Judd was also a guest artist and received a standing ovation for her performance of “My Tribute.” Wynona Judd said her grandmother passed away the day before her appearance.
(Sidebar: There was an error from the start of the program. Last night’s theme paid respect to the “God-fathers of Gospel” i.e., Thomas Dorsey, James Cleveland and Dr. Bobby Jones. However, that title was mis-used. It would be a demotion for Dorsey and Cleveland and has already been assigned to gospel artist Rev. Timothy Wright. Historically Thomas Dorsey has been recognized as the undisputed FATHER of gospel music. The Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA), founded by the late James Cleveland, has long identified Cleveland as the “The King” of gospel music. Dr. Bobby Jones is generally credited with his status as a media pioneer and affectionately known as the Ambassador of gospel music. He is also the actual Ambassador of Dominica. Perhaps more aptly put, the theme could have been the “Legends of Gospel Music.”)
The public can vote for their favorites online at BET.COM and catch the concluding episodes of Sunday Best on Sundays at 9:00 EST.

Y’Anna Crawley Speaks After Winning Sunday Best Season 2:
this show looks for talent not annointing. last week was about talent not annointing. One lady for 2weeks doesnt sing a gospel song and moves on and yall know it wasn’t gosepl its somthing that maskerades to sound like gospel but not once mention God or Jesus.
on may4 ,you sent home one of the best singer on the show.
how could anyony sent home a singer like her.I’m still in a daze about the hole thing.
This message is to Latice, I wanted you to know although you wasn’t chosen, you are one of the greatest and anointed singers in the gospel industry. My favorite song you performed on the show is “Soon will be done the troubles of this world” you know you rocked that song. You are an awesome singer. Your voice is very strong, you know how to bring Christ out in a person. Our children today need strong singers such as yourself to deliver the word that God wants us to hear. Keep your head up and continue to sing for the Lord Latice.
Verna Henry
mary mary should be ashamed of themselves in pushing jessica reedy to the front that girl can sing but she cannot move trouble people of this world with the jazz tone deep breathing lyrics i need a someone to uplift me not put me to sleep and latice should have been up there with y’anna they are your sunday best don’t feel sorry for jessica reedy we all have fell short in our lives deal with it and pray about it and let go and let god peace and love
i too, would like to echo from the previous writer. Mary Mary are looking for someone to sound as though they were in the bar trying to get out by singing a gospel song. Kurt is full of a lot of mess. I don’t know who he is or where he is. He is always trying to talk and exemple wordly attritrubutes. i think someone one needs to speak to all of these worldly Gospel singers about the true gospel that is becoming obselete
I AGREE WITH BRENDA TOTALLY. WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT SUNDAY BEST, YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT SOMEONE THAT CAN CONTROL THEIR VOICE, THE ANNOINTING IS THERE AND THEY ARE ABLE TO PERFORM ON STAGE AND MINISTER AND BE ABLE TO REACH THE CROWD. JESSICA REEDY CAN SING, BUT I’M SORRY SHE IS JUST NOT SUNDAY BEST. LATICE CRAWFORD SHOULD HAVE BEEN SELECTED WHEN THEY SUNG JESUS LOVES ME, BECAUSE SHE TORE IT UP AND JESSICA REEDY COULD NOT TOUCH HER AND MARY MARY KNOWS IT. THEY JUST LIKED HER VOICE AND THAT WAS NOT FAIR. GOD DON’T LIKE UGLY, IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO IT, THEN DO IT RIGHT AND FAIR.
Latice was wonderful and I agree and piggyback off of verna’s comment Latice rocked “Trouble of the world”. I feel out of Y’ana, Jessica and Latice the judges should have broke all the rules and all 3 ladies should have won because each as was stated had their own unique style and each one was bad. Latice is the new and upscale shaun pace rhodes with a little twang. Y’anna is the new aretha franklin and Jessica is a cross between stephanie mills and whitney houston. I will say though if it had to be done the last two left should have been latice and jessica…
