SUNDAY BEST’ FINAL TWO CHOSEN: Latice Crawford gets eliminated.
gospel | May 08, 2009 | Comments 3
With “one voice, one organ, and one last chance,” Y’Anna Crawley and Jessica Reedy became the top two remaining contestants on BET’s “Sunday Best” after silencing Latice Crawford in a sing off Sunday night.
Back to back, each singer sang “Jesus Loves Me” for a minute and thirty five seconds, immediately followed by the results. Then the judges decided to send New Yorker Latice Crawford home.
Now it’s single mom vs. single mom. Both Crawley and Reedy have stated in previous episodes that they are in it to win it for their sons.
Mary Mary’s Tina Campbell doesn’t want to see either of the ladies walk away empty handed.
“If I had a record label I would sign all three of you,” she exclaimed before the competition ended for Crawford. “You all are unique and the industry needs all 3 of you.”
But, points out her sister, Erica Campbell, “There can be only one Sunday Best.”
Until this Sunday, season one winner, Crystal Aiken is the one and only title-holder. Aiken returned to the “Sunday Best” stage and convincingly sang “I Desire More” from her self-titled CD. She sang passionately, as if to stamp her voice into the contenders’ minds so they’d never forgot that she was the original ‘Best.’
Choir maestro Ricky Dillard and New G also guest hosted the program.
The top two performed solos. Crawley gave a crowd-pleasing interpretation of Yolanda Adams‘ “The Battle Is Not Yours.“ Tina Campbell thought the performance was mediocre and admonished the Marylander that she can’t afford to slack.
However, the judges had no complaints when her opponent sang the traditional “I Won’t Complain.” Moved by the words she’d just sang, Reedy sobbed through the judge’s positive feedback.
The show ended with a Crawley-Reedy duet of the Commodores classic, “Jesus Is Love.”
Fans can now vote for their favorite. There are three ways the American public can choose the winner:
1. Cast your vote online at www.bet.com/sundaybest.
2. Vote via phone by calling toll-free: (877) 701-0141 for Jessica; (877) 701-0142 for Y’Anna.
3. Send a text to 70101 with the letter ‘A’ for Jessica, ‘B’ for Y’Anna (Cost: $0.49).
Voting ends at 12N PST, Saturday, May 9.
Watch the finale on BET at 9/8 EST Sunday, May 10th to see what record label signs the winner.

Hello. I really enjoyed the singing by the two finalist. However, Jessica Reedy had a distinguished uniqueness to her voice that commanded my attention as wells as many others. I was wondering if she has been signed to a recording label or will be in the near future?
Thank you in advance for time and response to my inquiry.
I can’t believe you clown eliminated Latice Crawford. You people are in the industry and you could not recognized an angel in your presence. I am embarrassed by that Sunday Best 2009 fiasco! Bebe and Mary Mary should be ashamed! Sing off my a@#! Latice Crawford will be fine without you guff-balls! I will not be watching this farse again!
P>S> Latice when you get your contract and get signed this is from a fan: U moved me with your spirit and I would like to request that you please, please make room on your CD to record Trouble of the world because I know no one has ever heard it done better than Mahalia and you surpassed her!!!

I would request the same from Jessica Please make room on your 1st CD for “God has smiled on me” cause you did rock it and I don’t care what no one says: It was so jazzy the way you song it, I did feel it touch my soul and it was, in a different scenerio feel as if you were sitting in a dark club listening to a good blues song having a drink.
