President Obama Administration Criticized for Non-Support of National Day of Prayer

“We are disappointed in the lack of participation by the President Barak Obama Administration,” said Shirley Dobson, chairwoman of the National Day of Prayer Task Force. “At this time in our country’s history, we would hope our President would recognize more fully the importance of prayer.” Shirley Dobson is the wife of Focus on the Family leader, James Dobson.
President Obama raised eyebrows this past week when the White House announced that it would not hold a special event recognizing the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 8. Comparisons immediately focused on the Bush administration’s support of the day over the last eight years.
Despite the non-participation of the White House and the criticism, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs indicated that it is the practice of President Obama to pray daily.
