Rae Ellis Debut Album “The Diary of Rae Ellis”:
Gospel | Jul 19, 2009 | Comments 0
Fusing gospel music’s past to its contemporary styling, emerging urban inspirational soul artist Rae Ellis serves as the perfect medium. With a vocal rasp reminiscent of Billy Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald or Nina Simone, Rae Ellis captivates a sound that is as raw and melodic. Coupled with the awareness and lyrical responsiveness of her neo-soul contemporaries, Jill Scott and Chrisette Michele, she clearly exudes an undeniable anointing that leaps from the speakers directly into the heart and spirit of her listeners.
This evangelist, songwriter, and vocalist was born in Cleveland, OH via Buffalo, NY where she served in music ministry under her late father, Bishop Nathan S. Halton. Having served closely with her father, the founder of the Greater Faith Bible Tabernacle, she quickly learned the importance of prioritizing ministry and the “kingdom agenda” above her own desires.
After honing her craft the doors of opportunity opened for Rae Ellis; sharing the stage with notable artists ranging from: Celine Dion, Tramaine Hawkins, Kim Burrell, The Clark Sisters, The Late Rev Timothy Wright, Tonex, Rev. John P. Kee, Tye Tribett and a plethora of others, all experiences that proved invaluable. Aside from her impressive stage performance portfolio she also has worked with producers Aaron Lindsay, Doobie Powell, and many others.
Anticipating the release of her late 2009 debut album, ‘The Diary of Rae Ellis,’ fans of gospel and R&B can expect to be blessed by the shear honesty and anointing of a woman who has lived, loved, was lost and is now found. With a hands on approach she produced/co-produced, wrote and arranged the musical montage found on ‘The Diary of Rae Ellis.’ “This project is a reflection of a multitude of things. It’s God’s thoughts towards his people, his desires from them, my thoughts towards God, and finally it serves as an invitation to become a member the greatest family in the Universe, the Christian family,” explains Ellis.
Losing a parent to cancer and being a survivor of domestic violence Rae Ellis has become an advocate for cancer wellness centers and battered women’s shelters. Reflecting her life and spiritual resilience through her music, Rae Ellis’ ‘The Diary of Rae Ellis’ will arrive in stores in late 2009.
