Trayvon Martin Rallies Supporters at L.A. Church:

Community members and celebrities gathered at an LA church last week to rally against racial profiling and to support slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin, says the Los Angeles Times.

The rally, held at West Angeles Church of God in Christ, was attended by family members of 17-year-old Trayvon, who was shot and killed by neighborhood watch commander George Zimmerman in February while walking home form a convenience store.

“I believe in God,” Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton, said at the rally, according to KTLA-TV. “I believe that justice will be served.”

The Rev. Jesse Jackson and comedian Paul Rodriguez also attended.

“What kind of nation are we living in if we can put a black man in the White House but we can’t walk a black teenager through gated community in Sanford, Florida?” Jackson asked.

He told the crowd that there were similar cases across the country. The Martin case has drawn intense media attention with many criticizing the way police handled it.
